The Council of Ministers of the Republic of Bulgaria approved the content of the draft Programme for Cross-border cooperation between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Serbia 2014-2020

At its regular meeting on September 17, 2014, the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Bulgaria adopted a decision that agrees with the content of the draft Programme for Cross-border cooperation between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Serbia 2014-2020.
The Programme will be implemented in 2014-2020, and will create opportunities for the realization of projects for development of the border regions and to promote partnership between the two countries. The Programme envisages providing support under the following thematic priorities:

  • Encouraging tourism and cultural and natural heritage;
  • Investing in youth, education and skills;
  • Protecting the environment and promoting climate change adaptation and mitigation, risk prevention and management.

Target groups and main types of Programme beneficiaries are national, regional and local authorities, public and non-governmental organizations, cultural institutions and educational institutions, which is a prerequisite for improving the knowledge and utilization of best practices in improving the ongoing regional and local development policies.

For the implementation of the Programme for Cross-border cooperation between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Serbia 2014-2020 are provided funds amounting to € 34,102,251 (28.98 million Euros provided by the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance (IPA II). The Bulgarian national co-financing covers 15% of the approved budget of Bulgarian project partners.
